If you haven’t heard of NaNoWriMo, then it’s worth checking out. Each year, thousands of participants flock to the webpage, to join in the trials and triumphs of writing a 50,000 word novel in a single month.
Some will complete the month with a crazy, cobbled together tale that they will never look at again, others with something they are proud of. Some won’t write more than a few thousand words. But even those few thousand words will be more than they would have written otherwise.
I’ve been particpating in NaNo since I discovered it in 2006. This competition gets me writing like nothing else, and I’ve won 4 times out of the 6 I’ve entered. Even those times when I didn’t win, I still made it to around 20,000 words, and was pretty pleased with the stories (both of which I plan to come back to).
I want to particpate this year. I had planned to participate this year. I was determined I was going to finish editing Reckless Rescue in plenty of time to write something new (or work on finishing the sequel). But I’m beginning to have my doubts.
I could push through, and get something done, but it comes down to this. I want to be sure Reckless Rescue is the best I can possibly make it, and I don’t want to put it off until after November.
Still not sure what I’m going to do. I’ll keep editing, and see where it takes me. I’m half way through making the changes I need to make, but I keep going back to add in more. Still a little over a week to go, so I don’t know.
No matter what, I’ll be hanging around on the NaNo boards, chatting to everyone there, and hopefully getting at least some words down in between editing rounds. And of course, hopefully announcing my novel actually getting published.
How about you? Are you planning on doing NaNo? Have you done it before?
Anyone who is, feel free to add me as a buddy, and we can cheer each other on!
