So excited to open this package! An it arrived 2 days ahead of Amazon’s estimated shipping time!
I do need to make a few changes, then order another proof copy, so having an actual print version for sale is probably still going to take a month (due to shipping time), but soon you’ll be able to buy a print copy of Reckless Rescue.
I’m still debating about whether to opt for expanded distribution. It will mean the price will probably have to go up a little, but for buyers in Australia, it will end up saving them a fortune if it can be bought from Book Depository, as Amazon shipping is crazy!
Do you still buy print books? And if so, where do you buy them – Amazon, Book Depository, or somewhere else?
Big smile, it looks great! Mine isn’t due until end of August, and it’s the uncorrected proof version, so I think my paperback will just about be available by Christmas. I haven’t made any decisions about distribution yet, so will watch with interest to see what you decide (as shipping to the UK isn’t much better)
Yes, it’s crazy isn’t it? I mean, it’s great to get author copy prices, but the postage more than cancels out any savings! I paid for the slightly higher shipping, as otherwise it takes months to get here! I still have a few corrections to make, some of the text is too faint, and a few page numbers not displaying correctly. But hopefully soon!
🙂 I’m dreading what will be wrong with mine – it took 8 uploads to get it through their vetting!
It took me about that long too! I had to realise which way around the margins went, upgrade all the photos to 300dpi, and save it as the right kind of .pdf document! It’s all such an experience.
Congratulations, when it’s all sorted, if you want to do a promo post on my blog just let me know.
Thanks Rosie! I will.
Looks good. I know people who buy paper books. In my household we rarely do. It has to be something we expect to loan out a lot. Expanded distribution has a number of advantages. I believe Kristine Kathryn Rush talks about it in 2 articles
The Year of the Bookstore http://kriswrites.com/2013/05/08/the-business-rusch-the-year-of-the-bookstore/
And
Shifting Sands http://kriswrites.com/2013/05/15/the-business-rusch-shifting-sands/ read the entire article but here is a good tidbit
“What has changed is this: Bookstores now have access to all published print books, whether they come from Createspace or from a big traditional publisher. Bookstores didn’t have access to all published print books before.
There are some caveats, of course. The first caveat is this: The indie writer must put her book into Createspace’s extended distribution program. (Lightning Source has something similar, but I’m not as familiar with it.) The second caveat is this: the bookstore must have a preferred account through its primary distributor.”
Thanks for those links Tasha. Fascinating reading.
It’s hard for me to see, here in Australia. I saw yet another bookstore closed down in my local shopping centre yesterday, leaving one store in a centre that would have had 3 or 4 ten years ago. But I think the industry in Australia is far more crippled by prices and availability than it is in the US.
You’re just cementing my plan to do expanded distribution. It will be interesting to see how it goes. I don’t have print books anymore either, mostly because you just can’t buy them here, but I know many people still do.

Thanks for commenting rbeey. It’s always been my intention to do a print book, but the formatting has put me off for a while. But now I have the hang of it, print books should come out only a month or two behind the ebooks. (Limited by the time it takes for me to get a proof copy from the US.)
Yay! Congratulations. It looks great.
Thanks. I’m pretty happy how it turned out.
How fabulous Rinelle and it looks so great and like a winner!
Thanks Susan! I’m a little bit in love with it. (While seeing all it’s flaws and knowing what I need to fix!)
Ooh! So pretty!
